The 6th All Members Meetings was hosted by the Federal Court of Accounts of Brazil in Brasilia (TCU), Brazil, from 15th to 19th June 2026.
The theme for the meeting was ‘Critical Minerals in Energy Transition: Global Trends and Governance Implications’.
The objective of the meeting was to discuss critical matters concerning WGEI, but specifically:
- Discuss topical issues and emerging areas in the extractive industries and design strategies of addressing them. The theme for the Conference will focus on critical minerals, global trends, challenges and the expected SAI response.
- Share experiences with technical experts and other international bodies involved in the extractive industries.
- Discuss the WGEI activity performance reports under the work plan (2022 – 2025).
- Discuss and approve the WGEI draft work plan for the period 2026 – 2028.
- Present and discuss the new WGEI audit tools and guidelines.
- Chart a way forward for the Working Group.

The Annual AFROSAI-E Extractive Industries Workshop was held as a joint event with the Annual WGEI Steering Committee Meeting in Livingstone, Zambia, from 15th to 18th July 2025.
In response to these emerging issues, the theme of the 2025 joint initiative was: The Role of SAIs in Future-Proofing Critical Minerals for the Benefit of Citizens.
Thematic discussions during the event will covered the following key topics:
- Future-proofing mining, for maximising returns from critical and conflict minerals: Ensuring that Africa’s critical and conflict minerals are used to create economic wealth and security for the citizens.
- Future-proofing mining, by prioritising peace, health, and safety: Ensuring the mining industry is safe and conflict-free for workers and the environment.
- Future-proofing mining, by investing in extractive industries infrastructure & technology: Ensuring that nations invest adequately in mining infrastructure and technology for efficient and effective mining projects.
- Future-proofing mining, through community participation: Ensuring that mining communities are involved in the energy transition and their voices are heard
