The Annual AFROSAI-E Extractive Industries Workshop will be held as a joint event with the Annual WGEI Steering Committee Meeting in Livingstone, Zambia, from 15th to 18th July 2025.

In response to these emerging issues, the theme of the 2025 joint initiative is: The Role of SAIs in Future-Proofing Critical Minerals for the Benefit of Citizens.

Thematic discussions during the event will cover the following key topics:

1. Future-proofing mining, for maximising returns from critical and conflict minerals: Ensuring that Africa’s critical and conflict minerals are used to create economic wealth and security for the citizens.
2. Future-proofing mining, by prioritising peace, health, and safety: Ensuring the mining industry is safe and conflict-free for workers and the environment.
3. Future-proofing mining, by investing in extractive industries infrastructure & technology: Ensuring that nations invest adequately in mining infrastructure and technology for efficient and effective mining projects.
4. Future-proofing mining, through community participation: Ensuring that mining communities are involved in the energy transition and their voices are heard
